Background and Experience: Cherie is a fifth year Get Fit Atlanta member. She began running in 2001 to get fit and lose weight. Prior to 2001, Cherie had never participated in any type of athletics and would have never dreamed she could accomplish what only “elite” athletes do—run a marathon! Cherie equates her marathon training and new found athleticism to “fitting a square peg in to a round hole.” After having never been physically active, Cherie is proof that, with lots of grit, determination and the Get Fit program, anyone can go from being a “couch potato” to an accomplished marathoner. Since she started running Cherie has run numerous 10K’s, 5K’s, 15K’s, the 2006, 2008, and 2009 Ekiden Relays, five Half-Marathons, eight Marathons (the 2006 Chicago Marathon, 2007 Inaugural ING Georgia Marathon, 2007 Detroit International Marathon, 2008 Chickamauga Marathon, 2008 Rocket City Marathon, 2009 Knoxville Marathon, 2009 Twin Cities Marathon, and the 2010 New Orleans Marathon) and most notably an Ultra-Marathon. As Cherie’s love of running and physical fitness has increased so has her weekly mileage. When she is not running she is working out or spinning at her local gym. Through her infectious enthusiasm and upbeat coaching style Cherie has helped many runners reach their goal of running a marathon and get faster and stronger in the process. She is always ready to offer encouragement and a helping hand so that others can achieve their running goals.
