Background and Experience: Harry took +10 years off from running until February 2008 and had never run in a race. After training on his own for a 5k Harry found Get Fit Atlanta at the ING GA Marathon Expo and joined with intent of running his first Peachtree Road Race and completing a half marathon before the end of the season. Instead, along with completing his first Peachtree Road Race, Harry targeted and completed the Marine Corps Marathon in 2008. After completing his first marathon Harry decided to take training seriously and completed the Albany, GA (Snickers) Marathon in 2009, lowering his PR by more than one and a half hours.
Harry can’t do this alone and has his wife and six children to thank for their support. Harry’s wife and 9 year old son were inspired by Harry’s training to train for and complete their first half marathon (Silver Comet half marathon) in 2008 and have since completed the Albany (Snickers) half marathon 2009. Harry’s Albany marathon was made complete by the fact he started with his wife and son and his whole family was at the finish to cheer him on at the finish.
Training philosophy: has evolved this year and can be simply stated as: There are NO shortcuts. Harry is a strong believer in cross training and taking scheduled walk breaks during long runs and half and full marathon race distances. Harry’s personal experience has shown that you can run less and run faster.
